I dont know how y'all work in Photoshop
« on: June 25, 2011, 02:24:29 PM »
I dont know how y'all work in Photoshop for spot colors without pulling your hair out.  I've got a design that was sent to me in psd format that has halftones.  ok, fine... but when i add the text to it, then send the file to the RIP, everything is halftones!  my text should be solid spot color instead... halftones....

if i put the text on a separate channel and print it direct to the printer, the film is not dark.  besides, why should i have to make two screens to accomplish a 1 color print.

i could print the text out of Corel and get my dark prints but... why should I?  Why can't I get all this out of photoshop in 1 channel.  it's a 1 color print with halftones for crying out loud.

ARGHHH..........
Have a great day! :)

I color you could get by with printing a composite.

For the rest I agree with you. Thats way I go back and fourth between PS and Corel.

You need to make sure that your black is 100% black on the areas that you dont want to half tone. If you dont your RIP will see it as a percentage of black.

adjust the curves -cntrl M- is the hot key. open up the info window and scroll over the area you want to darker and see what percentage it is. it's really not that hard -send it over if you need it worked on.

A lot of artists don't really know how to set their jobs up as spot color, and you end up with tints in multiple channels.
