printing film positives from Photoshop...?
« on: September 08, 2011, 03:16:18 PM »
I am currently using the Adobe CS5 suite with Illustrator and Photoshop.  We are using Accurip and printing on an Epson 1400.

Currently we have been printing all positives from Illustrator, but have had to print a few from Photoshop.  My problem is that the print dialog box in PS is pretty different from the print dialog box in Illustrator and im not sure how to get similar results from PS.  Basically when I print positives from PS they are not "spot colors".  We keep getting some very small halftones and been having to wash them out.

Where in the PS dialog box can you change what colors get printed?  And where are the halftone settings?   In Illustrator all of that is under the "output" dropdown, but this is not the case in PS.

Any help is appreciated!

In Photoshop just select the channel you want to print. Turn off all other channels. If you need to print more than one channel then select and print them one at a time.

Preston... by channel do you mean layer?  Or are you talking about the colors in the print dialog box?  Im using CS5 and apparently the print dialog box was changed with the release of CS5 and I dont see those color options in "output" or "color management".

Our real problem is that our spot colors are printing as half tones...  how do i get solid spot colors?

I came upon some other threads in the PS forum with similar questions, but im still kinda lost.

Yes, PS5 did take away the color management that previous version had in the print dialog.

Is your design 1 color or multiple colors?  If multiple, you will need to color separate into channels not layers then print each channel individually by selecting one at the time.

to get the spot color to not show half tones, i'm going to pass along what Steve at quikseps told me.
-------------------------
Select the object within the channel its on using the magic wand tool and fill it with 100% black color.  It will then print solid.

You can also select the object and use a curve to solidify it.  Grab the upper right handle within the Curves and drag it to the left (right along the top).  Keep the "Info Palette" open and hover any tool over the text while adjusting it.  Keep moving the handle to the left until 100% is reached within the Info Palette.
----------------------------
Have a great day! :)
