Ads on SPOF
« on: September 01, 2009, 11:30:15 PM »
Why should I buy an ad system instead of just putting the ads on here myself? Well the way I look at it is this. If someone pays for ad space, they should be able to get all the stats on their ad/s plus have total control over the ads. They should have the ability to change their ad if needed without having to wait on me to do it. They need to be able to see which ads are effective and which ones are not. The ad stats and performance is critical info for an advertiser and needs to be available to them.

Also placing an ad on this site is another way to support the site and get something of use at the same time. I am not running a business with these sites and I have nothing to really sell on them like some of the other sites out there. I am not looking to make a living off the forum or any of the other sites I have put up for the industry. But I do want to continue to improve what has been built. To expand them, improve them and make them grow. This takes funding from time to time so my hopes are the ad system will help pay those expenses.

So the first question I would like feedback on from potential advertisers is what type of plans would you like to see? I can set up monthly to yearly that would give your ad unlimited views and click through during the ad subscription timeframe or I can setup a per click plan that would allow your ad to be displayed until all the click you purchased are used up. I could also setup both options.

Currently, right now with the minimal 85,000 to 100,000 page views this site gets per month a per click plan may give you the most exposure time but as the site continues to grow it may be better for a monthly unlimited click plan.

The second question is ad locations. Currently I have the main ads showing up in what is called the ?welcome? area of the site. This is the upper right. I have also setup for banner ads to be right above the forum info center and right below it. This is at the bottom of the page. I can also setup slots that can specifically target subject mater. An example would be an ad or ads from equipment manufactures or suppliers showing up when you are browsing the ?screen printing equipment? board or the ?embroidery equipment? boards. Basically I can set up ads to be displayed where ever and when ever. Then as an advertiser you select the where when you select the package. As long as your subscription is active for that placement area you can upload, change or update your ad any time you want. You control your ad. I will also be adding geo-targeting so you can choose which parts of the world you want your ad to be seen.

Bottom line is the site is growing. It is moving up very fast in the ranks (#2 and 3 slot on some search phrases). Google has had over 200 spiders indexing the site this week alone. I have seen anywhere from 2 to 60 spider links from Google at one time on the forum and they are coming several times a day, everyday. Does this mean the site will move to the top of the rankings? No but it does mean the search engines are interested in all the stuff going on over here.

As I stated the site is growing, I am going to continue to improve and ad stuff, I need funding to help cover the cost so that is why I am selling ad space. Heck, at least you get something for the money if you support the site by placing an ad.

Paul,

I have never done this before so I do not have a clue what is in a media kit. If you can give me some examples I will gather the info and send it to you.

Thanks guys.

The site itself still has over a year left on its hosting, just trying to get things going here so the site can at least pay for itself and continue to improve. All it will take is for a few to place ads and the cost for the ad system will be covered.

Maybe $20.00 a month or $54.00 for 3 months is too stiff but the other place's original site owner is asking anywhere from $100.00 a month to $600.00 a month at his new site. Another site that gets about a 10'th of the traffic this site does has higher rates. T-Shirt Forums is in the thousands for ad space if you can even get it. Now I know this site does not compare traffic wise to T-Shirt forums but it does and exceeds a lot of the others so I did not think the ad rates I posted where out of line. I don't know, you tell me.

When searching for "screen printers forum" we are in the #2 slot on yahoo and the #5 or 6 slot on google.

I'm in. . .even if I don't take out an ad (99% certain I will), I will still toss you some coin. If everyone of the "regulars" pitched in $10.00, you'de have the money in no time! I don't want to speak for everyone else, but I can surely spare a few dollars to help a worthy cause.

Thanks but what ever you throw in, you will get credit towards an ad slot.

Forgot to mention this.

Ads displayed at the top of the forum are also displayed on screenprintersopen.com , screenprinterscookbook.com and classifieds.screenprintersopen.com so an ad placement there gives you exposure on 4 websites, soon to be 5.

Do you have a limit on the number of ads accepted? In other word's, how many rotating ads would an advertiser have to compete with for exposure?
