Classifieds
« on: September 23, 2009, 10:45:57 AM »
I am thinking about integrating an actual classifieds system into the forum.
This system would replace the classified section of the boards as it currently is.

The new system would still have "Private" and "Commercial" sections but would also allow members to receive payments via paypal for items they listed in the classifieds if they wanted to.

There would also be the ability to run a listing as an auction with or without a "buy it now" button.

Listings would also have a time frame so they would automatically be purged from the system after X amount of time and thus keep the listings less cluttered.

There may or may not be a small fee (like a buck) to list as an auction or in the commercial section but I have not decided one way or the other yet and if I did decide to do that there would be an introductory free listing time frame to kick off the new feature. Private listing would always be free. Commercial listings would be those from a company that is in the business of selling what they are listing. Private listing would include companies selling something they normally do not sell and is a one of, like if Sam was selling his diamond back so even though Sams company is a commercial entity it is not in the business of selling presses. Again, if I do set a listing fee it would be small and only because the fuunds would help continue to operate, grow and improve the forum.

And if I do add this to the forum you can thank the banner advertisers as the classified feature is not free.

Thoughts? Comments? Yes do it? No don't?

Go for it. I'd pay a buck or two to list an item.
Even though I'm broke I got a six pack of beer.

preston,

i think the additon of payment options in itself is worth the $1 to place an ad. there a many places to put free ads but none that i've seen offer buy it now functionality. that should help with close rates for the sellers.

i vote go for it.

Have a great day! :)

I think it is a great idea.
I love the smell of ink curing in the morning.
