Anajet mPower - My Observations
« on: September 11, 2011, 03:56:03 PM »
I saw this at the Atlanta ISS and if you haven't seen this DTG machine yet, it is worth a look when you get a chance.  I have been watching and participating in this market since its inception and this is probably the first dark DTG machine under $40k that has me looking twice.

http://www.anajet.com/mpower/products/mpower/

Most dark dtg machines run with a converted Epson print head (i found usually a 4880).  They print fantastic but have issues with clogging especially with white ink.  Daily maintenance is required to keep them flowing smoothly and efficiently.  The mPower from Anajet has a print head specifically designed by Ricoh for this machine and does not require the maintenance the 4880 does.  I found a current owner of an mPower at the show and he told me that he returned from a two week vacation, turned the Anajet on, printed the first shirt perfectly.  no maint routine ran, no magic dances, just turned it on, hit print. I was shocked to say the least.

Print speed was impressive also.  I owned a Brother GT541 until recently and nothing had come close to matching it for speed and reliability.  The speed of this Anajet on light garments was quite impressive.  In fact, the same or maybe a bit better than my GT541.  Dark shirt still require 2 passes (white then color) and still require pre-treat which i doubt will ever go away.

Quite a few other things impressed me about this one.  If you are looking for a DTG machine that can print darks, this would be one to checkout in my opinion.
Have a great day! :)

I have been wondering when someone would utilize Ricohs printhead. I have a 1400 with sublimation inks that clog like crazy. I also have a Ricoh with Chromablast ink and I can leave that thing off for a month and fire it right up and print.

Did you get rid of your Brother Gt-541? Because in your post you said you "owned" one like it was past tense.

I have a Ricoh 7000 for sublimation, and I have yet to clean the heads and I can leave it off for weeks.  Ricoh has something good in head design.

Yep, the lease was up so I let it go back.  the market for light only garments was heading on a downward trend for me so it was the best option for my shop.
Have a great day! :)

Are you looking into another one? Or are you just done with DTG?

I would never say done.  I am just sitting back for awhile to see what develops.  I am waiting to see a white DTG that is consistent, easy to use, and affordable (lower price point than the Kornit or the Brother 751).  There are some changes going on right now and I'm just watching a few machines.  If things come together down the road, then I might venture back into the market.

There is a market for DTG.  However, as I've said in the past, the market is not self sustaining stand alone business. (my opinion) I do see DTG as an additional service that does fill a void in some print shops.  small full color runs are more efficiently produced with DTG vs traditional screen print.  but longer runs, screen print will eat DTG alive in terms of speed and cost.

Have a great day! :)
