DTG Printers?
« on: September 03, 2009, 10:05:28 AM »
Heya everyone,  ???

I'm researching a DTG printer. What are the current manufacturers to choose from? I heard through the grapevine that USSPI is in the middle of a big internal struggle. So I don't know if i'd consider the Fast T-Jet printers.

Can someone give me a hand?

Thanks,  :)
Matt

USSPI is no longer. The T-Jet is dead and there is only minimal support for them and only from some of the old distributors. I do not think you can even buy a new T-Jet anymore.

M&R has the I-Dot and Brother also makes them. Both have options for doing dark shirts.

The one thing I would be leery of right now is that Kromit has filed a law suit claiming patent infringement against those who are making DTG machines that can print white on dark. What does this mean if they win the law suite? Who knows. Could be anything from paying licencing fees and fines to making the others recall all the machines.

I have a Brother GT-541 - does not print on dark shirts but is excellent quality. they have another one called the GT-782 that prints 2 shirts at a time and prints white on dark. Last I heard, that one was about $55,000.

I have worked with both Brother and M&R I dot. Any machine will have pros and cons.

I would visit a trade show or event, make a list of questions that you want answered.
What is the DPI, How many shirts can I print an hour, what maintenance is needed everyday start up and shut off, what is the washability of the garment. ETC.
I would suggest before you buy any machine you take your own art on a flash drive and see what can be done with it.
Also most equipment MFGS have a ROI cost analysis that would be beneficial to see what profit and cost estimates would be.
There is the Long Beach California ISS Show coming up in January 22-24 this would be a good venue to see the units.
Or contact me and I can set you up with a demo of the I-dot or Brother unit in your area.
