New site and its content.
« on: September 30, 2009, 12:20:16 PM »
First if you can see this board then that means I have selected your screen name from those I know are in embroidery. Or at least I think I know you are.

I am currently working on version 2.0 of the forum.

I want to expand the information and offerings to the embroiders but I need your help and/or suggestions to pull this off.

The new site, in beta state, allows me a lot more flexibility to create a more vibrant informative site. I have a long way to go with it before I replace this version with the newer one. If you want to look at it in its extremely rough state you can do so at http://www.screenprintersforum.com . You can even log in but anything you post will be overwriten when I do the database merge right before I make then new site live at this url.

Like I said, I want to build a better more informative site and I would like to include more for the embroidery people.

I like the colors of the new board little easier on these old eyes. Having the greeting and your messages all on the top right is conveient as well. I'll keep checking back to see what else is different. :)

Ok, I made the "user info" viewable on all the forum pages instead of just on the front page. It shrinks the width when you are in the forum area so let me know.

But do not forget that I am looking for embroidery content ideas and suggestions. If you want to write a series of "Stitch's Embroidery Tips?" or if you know where I can go and get content with permission to post it there. That is what I am looking for.

Great idea Preston!!
You could even break embroidery down further into tips for digitizing(ex. tips for digitizing for puff emb.,how to digitize correctly for cap fronts) and tips for production runs (ex. using solvy on fleece to keep the thread from sinking into the fleece)etc...

Yes I could but I do not know any of that stuff so that is why I am asking for input or sources that I could get permission to place on the site for that type of info.

BJ this will only lead to people cross posting in two or more areas. Look at the old forum it had(has) 110 different forums and only a hand full are active on a daily bases.

I think three are plenty
1) embroidery in general, need help ect.
2) embroidery tips
3) Punching (digitizing) Questions and help.

I think you are missing the point or should I say my intent. Yes I could setup 3 boards, one for each of those tiles or more if needed. But what I am really looking for is the how-to's, where to get, you can do this with this machine, how to embroider on water (you can screen print water so I figure you can embroider it too) and machine reviews to name a few. You know those types of things in either how-to articles or even videos. I will then create pages/sections on the site that are accessible from a side menu on the front page and that menu will also display when in the embroidery boards.

If you remember on the old screenprinters dot net there used to be an article section accessible from the main site. It had all kinds of good info for screen printers. This is what want to start building for the embroiders first and then the screen printers but instead of having to leave the forum site it will all be accessible from there.

I see what your looking for now. The old article section on the old forum. I think that's a great Idea.
Stitches Magazine type articles for embroiderers.
I'm not a writer but I'm sure BJ or Diane could come up with some good ones.
See if you can get Stitches Mag to let you link some. Ask Phil is always a great place for info as well

Ok, go to the beta site and log in on the front page. You will see a menu block right under the user info block. Click on the "Example Embroidery Page" and you will see an example of an article. You have to log in as I do not have permission to reproduce the article and it is only being used right now as an example.

Again, the url is http://www.screenprintersforum.com

preston,

i do like the look and feel of the new site. will u have a spotlight business like in the example each month or quarter?

i do think the cats mentioned above would be useful. Much like screen printing, there are tons of nuiances and it would certainly help to bounce off each other. Plus, the digitizing section would be awesome as that is one area i think we all have questions about. newbies are terrified of the machine much less digitizing.

Ask Phil at NNEP and Stitches magazines as mentioned above are good resources. an active embroidery section might also bring some of the manufactures and software developers to the site much as there are representatives from SP companies here now. hmmm....

Besides our own trusted crew of digitizers that are here now, there were others that helped out on the "old" boards. Vitor pops to mind but i dont see him any more. dont get me wrong, there were plenty of hustlers there also. :-)

The tips section would be very helpful also. much like sp, there is always another way to do something or a creative new approach can be found by boucing ideas of each other.

now, with all this said, it will take support of everyone here to get this going and keep it going. we certainly dont want u to go through all this effort and then no one participates. i dont think you have to worry about that though. we've got a pretty good bunch of sew-heads here. ;D
Have a great day! :)
