Embroidery Machine Recommendations?
« on: October 26, 2011, 02:51:13 PM »
Hey Ya'll,

We outsource our embroidery, but we get so busy that our embroiderer sometimes falls behind, creating issues with our customers. I wouldn't mind being able to do super simple stuff in-house. For example, I've got 10 hoodies that need a 2.5" number embroidered on the back in white. I've got like, 12 polos that need a simple name embroidered on each one. I'd be nice to be able to do it in-house super fast and easy.

Anyone have any recommendations on a machine that can do something like that, nicely, but inexpensively?

Eric

I would recommend getting a Tajima machine for your embroidery needs. I have a Tajima single head machine and is nice.  I also outsource our larger orders (our guy does all the embroidery for the University of Missouri).  Smaller orders under 50 we do in house.

Thats a hobby machine at best. Stay away. I am looking to bring our embroidery in house too. I had a great conversation on the chat with Stitch and 3Deep (Darryl) about machines. I was pretty set on a Barudan but I am looking at Tajima now too.

You could do both of those jobs on this one. And I could see how it would be handy for just names.

There is a shop here that does everything with a brother and only up to it's size restrances.

But with that said

I have seen Tajima, Barudan, SWF, Toyota and Melco for a thousand or 2.

My 3 Barudan's have Tajima heads and I think the new ones still do.

Age really does not matter on these as long as the up keep was good.

If it was me I would go for the Tajima, Barudan, or SWF's.

Look for a deal where you get the computer and punching software.

You will have to have the cables or a disk drive to talk to the emb machine.

Also the older disk drives use 3.5 720k DSDD disk and are getting hard to find.

If you could find one converted to a USB drive would be idea.

Also get one with a monitor...it's so much easier with one.

The old Barudan's use a 9 pin VGA monitor which is also hard to find.

The board alone to change to a newer monitor is a few grand.

I know that is a lot to think about, but might help you find the one you want in the used mkt.

Run away run away. The smallest machine you should get is a 6 needle. Those sewing machines with embroidery can only do 1 color at a time

I personally recommend going no smaller than a Tajima Neo or the Barudan lite XL but you will out grow both these machines very quickly.

When I have time I'm going to start a thread on the ins and out and pro and cons of embroidery machines. Maybe I'll start it tonight when I
get home

You are right on with that.  A good used machine that was take care of will work just as well as a new one.

Speaking of used: Are you still using all 3 of those machines?  If not Ill take one off your hands.

The problem is a single head usually has had the s#*! ran out of it. If you are buying a used machine because some one bought
it new and failed in business you are most likely going to get a good one. If you are buying a machine of a busy shop that is upgrading
to a mutlihead because the single head can't keep up to the work load stay away from it. It will be long passed it's glory days.

Anyway I'm off in a couple of hours so I'll start the new thread when I get home.

Frank to be honest I don't think I would sell the two head.

The one time I was going to sell it I was only asking $2500 for it and with the amount of stuff I would have to move to get it out including taking two heads and arms off the auto, I'm just going to keep it.

It does not eat anything and when I do cut it on it makes me money. ;D
