New automatic controllers
« on: June 30, 2011, 10:09:45 PM »
Since the new machines are going embedded PC I was curious as to what they are running? What brand box or embedded PC are they? What brand processor? Touch screen? OS? Do the I/O ports connect via USB ? Serial?

I am a software engineer by day and this has really peaked my interest lately as we are using some rugged embedded systems at work.

Most of them are proprietary OS's on proprietary circuit boards and not anything like a PC. The main program logic would be stored in something like a eprom. Some use PLC's that have the program stored in a volatile eprom that require a battery to hold enough power on the PLC so the machine does not go stupid. I the the new Anatol Aries software is Windows based (I could be wrong). On my Rhino it has proprietary circuit boards that communicate via CAT-5 cables.
