Rebuliding dryer elements
« on: March 28, 2011, 01:02:26 PM »
Need a source for the braided insulated wire that connects the elements to the terminal block.

Local sources just go, Huh? when I show them a sample including Graingers..

also need the high heat crimp terminals to connect.

Tired of just patching my dryer and want to redo all connections
from the terminal blocks to the element connection with fresh wire and new connectors.

The wire is getting too heat shocked to use.
Having to cut back several inches to find shiny copper.

McMaster Carr has it. Make sure you get the Teflon coating and not the Silicon.

It's the first thing listed.

Got mine here locally, and they are all over the place (got one in Concord bindle)
Mine is not teflon coated though, more like a fiberglass, and got the heavy terminals as well. Used to need them all the time on an old Ranar.

Johnstone supply. You do need to register as a business

Snaps, I'd forgotten about them. I think I tried to buy something from them once when I wasn't a business
and they weren't having it.

There is a real art to connecting copper wire to nichrome elements. I think there's some
sort of dielectric or bimetal corrosion that goes down under heat.

If you need, you could always give my business name, but I"m pretty sure that you could just register yours with them

I think I'd be good to go nowadays. This was when I was into brewing beer all the time. Johnson
Controls makes temp controllers that we used for fermentation fridges. Now I'd just make one
with a SSR and PID for 1/3 the price.
