Trailer size
« on: December 06, 2011, 09:59:18 PM »
Preston I know you do this...if anyone else does also please chime in.

We are in the infancy stage of planning to take our show on the road.  We do many events yearly already and we make good money at it...but there's a lot of lost revenue at the end since we preprint everything right now at the shop..and also seem to guess high.  There are many more events yearly that we say no to...just because there hasn't been enough time in our lifes...but with the additions of some TM's I would like to venture out a lot more.

Well we would like to either buy a stock or have someone build a custom concession trailer.  I would like some feedback on the length and width of what some of you use right now and if its enough room for you.  Also anything else that you would like to have in it as well that you may or may not have.

Most places that we go to do NOT have power so I'm also going to have to get some power to this beast.  Do you think a 3000 honda would do it?  What kind of power are you running?

What size press do you have in the trailer?
What size dryer?

Basically we will be purchasing these items also.

That's all I can think of right now...if anyone sees anything that I'm missing..please share.

Jon

Trailer size depends on what you are going to do with it and how much room you want to work in.  If you are going to print in the trailer then you should have a 6 color press. You will also need a dryer. Then you need room for shirt storage, a service window and all the other junk you will be taking with you.

The smallest trailer I would even think about would be a 20 foot trailer. The ones with a v-nose will give you a little bit more room to use for something. We have a 24 foot trailer with a 6 color press and a 24" x 8' conveyor dryer. You can go with a 18" x 6' dryer but your speed will be slower and while you are not looking at the doz-per hour rate per-say, you are looking at how long someone has to stand at the window waiting on a shirt.

Running a conveyor dryer I would not go with anything less than an 8,000 watt generator if using a 8 foot convey dryer or a 5,000 watt if using a 6 foot conveyor dryer. A 3,000 watt generator would be pretty useless in my opinion.

Another thing to consider is how big of a rig you want to handle. With our truck and trailer we are 40 feet long. Remember a trailer size is the size plus the tongue so our 24 foot trailer is 24 feet plus about 3.5 feet of tongue.

The good thing about our trailer is we have room for a full width counter up front for all the shirts and a nice countertop down the side. The side counter is about 2 feet deep and then narrows to about a foot deep in front of the service window.

Oh, and get a beaver tail trailer with a full drive in ramp. It will make putting your equipment in the trailer so much easier.

If you have the extra cash a 5th wheel trailer will give you all that extra room over the truck bed for storage or you could
though a mattress up there if you need to sleep in it over night.

Thank you guys for the responses.

Your answers Preston were exactly why I asked the question.....I very much under estimated the power that I would need to run this beast.  I was pretty close on my estimate on the length of the trailer needed.

Any idea what width your trailer is?  8

Thanks again for your replies.
