Getting started
« on: April 09, 2010, 06:34:07 PM »
Just received my epson 1400 and FilmMaker. Can't wait to try it out. I have QuickSeps and have been using the Wilflex plugin for halftones on a hp printer. It has been fine for doing some basic blends but I want to get into some sim process. I'm sure I will have plenty of rags in the shop soon...

Which FilmMaker resolution and density settings did you choose?
I've been using an Epson 1400 and FilmMaker for about a month... set at 1440x1440 60lpi DD.
I haven't printed enough films yet to start fooling around with other settings, so far I'm happy with the results.

An average size image takes 3 minutes to print at those settings.
There is an HS setting (high speed ?)... I may try that setting next.
I have no business affilliation with SPOF.

Do you have QuikSeps Professional? If so, then why not use the halftone actions included free with QuikSeps? I think you'll find them much more user friendly and faster.

Steve as you know I have QS-Pro. I have used the halftone actions and they work very well..except..., FilmMaker has way more options and produces denser films. Also for the process films 60 lpi does a much better job and the halftone action does not go any higher than 55 lpi. Plus once you get FilmMaker setup there is nothing else you need to do other than print from any graphics program like you normally would do. You just set the rip as your printer and go. That said, the CMYK separations that QS-Pro creates are as near as perfect as you can get with a automatic separation utility.

I misunderstood the original poster. Thought he was referring to the Wilflex Easyart actions for halftones. It certainly sounded that way even though the post was in this thread.

I was using the wilflex action with the first version of QuikSeps. I don't think the halftone action was available with that version (2.0 I think) Yes I do also have QS Pro but I did prefer to have a rip that was printer specific. That said I am a huge fan of QS.
