Marking Your Screens
« on: February 06, 2010, 09:33:58 AM »
How does everyone mark their screens for identification? I think weve hit on a good method at our shop, that covers all the issues. The problems are:
Marking with something that doesnt dissolve when you clean your screens
Making sure the mesh count info is clearly visible at all times

What weve done is to print a load of self adhesive vinyl stickers with the various mesh counts printed on them. I went overboard with ours by die cutting them using a 35mm circle die we already had. We screened the stickers on bright yellow vinyl in black ink, so very easy to see. Then, I die cut a load of the same size circles in clear self adhesive vinyl. The idea is that you stick the correct mesh count sticker on the end of your screen frame, then stick the clear sticker over the top of it, making it completelt protected from screenwash etc. Our screens have had these stickers on for getting on a year without them coming off or being any less visible. The real joy with the stickers being att he ends of the screens is that you can quickly see what screens you have when you look in your drying cabinet, as you can see the stickers end-on when you open the cab. doors, & you can easily see the mesh counts of the screens in your press, or in your screen cart etc. Genius huh? This is my contribution to society. Enjoy! :i>

I've used my plotter to cut sign vinyl and place the numbers on the end of the square bar, so I can see them in the drying cabinet or the screen rack. I really ought to place an additional number on the top of the square bar at one end. I have yet to have any of the numbers come off in the reclaim process.

That'll do it- lot less work than the way we did it too- I just remember going through alot of different methods (colour coding/writing on the mesh etc) & then our sticker way worked so well I thought I'd tell the world!.. How does everyone else do it?

We permanently mark the mesh in the following way.....simple black sharpie marker in two or more corners.
We then take some 5 minute epoxy we buy it at America's gateway to china...... Walmart.
Mix up a little and take a business car, small old brush  or your finger and coat the mesh on both sides of the sharpie mark .
When the 5 minute epoxy is cured, oddly enough in about 5 minutes :P, the ink will be encapsulated and remain forever!!!!
If you don't like the 5 minute epoxy method steal some clear fingernail polish from your better half and do the same using the polish, be sure first the polish will not smear the ink...5 minute epoxy absolutely will not smear the ink.

I use  colored electrical tape. All my screens are Newman rollers. I just use (for example) red on the right end of the roller for a 156, (where the wrench goes), blue on the right for a 195 etc.  It holds up to retensioning and reclaim. I can see what meshes are where weather they're in the screen room or on the production floor. You can also tell at a  glance when they're in the press.
