Epson WorkForce 1100 & Dye Based ink?
« on: January 30, 2012, 09:25:59 PM »
What am I doing wrong?

I have an Epson Workforce 1100 w/ 2 Black Auto-Reset #68 ink cartridges filled with dyed based inks and can not get it to print black. When I put the OEM ink cartridges filled with Black OEM PIGMENT ink the printer works fine. I've tried doing an Epson head cleaning over 5 times w/ no avail.

Other guys are getting their WorkForce 1100 to work just fine with dye based ink, so I know it can be done (I.e.

I print daily with my WorkForce using reman cartridges from 123inkjets.com.  I have had a problem once where the ink cartridge wouldnt print or should I say, printed very light.  I replaced the cartridge with another one, ran the head clean, and everything worked fine.

if you are switching back to OEM and everything is fine, I would lean toward a problem with the other carts.

one other thing i found to get darker prints, try setting your black to CMYK 60/40/40/100.  much darker print

Have a great day! :)

I think Nathan is correct. If one set of cartridges is print and the others aren't it's probably the cartridges. Could be bad reset chips on them.

Some refillable carts require that you pull a vacuum on them the first time to break an internal seal. Cover any vent hole with tape, hold in place with your thumb and then put the syringe (without the fill needle) into the cartridges fill hole. Now pull up on the plunger to create a vacuum in the cartridge. This should break any internal seal. If that was the problem then the cartridges should start working.

Thanks Preston for the reply.

I just tried pulling a vaccuum on the ink cartridges & still nothing. I bought dye based ink (Epson 1200 bulk black ink from inksupply.com) and auto resettable chip ink cartridges as you suggested. I'm trying to imagine all the mistakes I could be doing. Is it that dye-based ink just doesn't work with Epson Workforce 1100? I ran the head cleaning several times. I'm drawing a blank here.

Nathan,

I will end up buying those reman cartridges from 123inkjets.com IF I can't get these to work 1st. I know you have an Epson WF 1100 and very interested in your set-up.

I definitely need darker prints seeing the OEM pigment inks are just not literally cutting it. I was getting under-cutting on my exposures with OEM pigment inks.

Are you buying reman ink cartridges everytime you run out of ink?

I have Film Maker DTP Lite. Can you give me more details on exactly on this "setting your black to CMYK 60/40/40/100" Thank you, I'm a slow learner.

I know on my R1900 if I let one of the refillable cartridges run dry I have to run the head cleaning about 10 times in a row to get the ink pulled back down into the print head. Could be your just not running enough cycles the first time before you give up. It that does not work then there is something not letting the ink come out of the refillable cartridges.

PRESTON!!! YOU ROCK BUDDY!!!

I was seriously about to give it up.

That was extra vacuum pull and head cleaning fixed it.

Can't wait to show you guys what ParkerWorks has coming this year. Very Exciting.

You will know when you get your tshirt in the mail Preston. Thanks again everyone!

If you are running your prints through Film Maker, you don't have to adjust your settings as film maker uses its own ICC profile and for me, makes some wicked black films.  the only time i mess with the black is if I'm shooting straight to the printer which is only if its a one color print.

If you are in Corel, select your objects that you want to change to black, then look in your object properties.  Go to advanced.  In the advanced window, you can set your own colors.

Yep.  123 everytime i need ink.
Have a great day! :)
