What are my pallet adhesive options
« on: September 13, 2011, 12:01:15 AM »
Hey guys, all I have ever used for pallet adhesive has been spray tack. I saw something in another post about a product called techbond (I think that's the name of it). I have the wood pallets that came with the Antec press and I use pallet tape. What options are available and what would you recommend?

TexTac I believe it is called. I use it but never really looked at how the name was spelled. Way better than spray can stuff.

The teckbond HVTB i think it is is great, lasts forever and renews easily without a lot of fuss.
Here is a link that may help on the clean up.

That product is incredible, we use textac from texsource but I'm sure it's all very similar.   I would pay $100/gallon for it. We used under a gallon of it in a year printing hard on the auto.  I bet we saved $500 in spray tac, not to mention the mess we didn't have to clean up or the crap we didn't have to breathe in.

Just make sure you keep your pallets warm.

Same here. Tekbond is pretty good stuff. The only time I use spray tack is when doing larger sweatshirt runs on the auto to keep it going faster.

Mooseman, that video is awesome, thanks a lot. The link shows that it's available in 8 oz. and 32 oz. How much would it take to coat 6 pallets. I don't mind buying in quantity, but those look like they would be great sizes for testing to see if it works for me. Stitch and Get Shirts!, that's exactly what I'm thinking, if I can keep that stuff out of my lungs and off my equipment I'll be a happy boy! And saving money to boot..........Whoo Hooo!;D

Buy the 32oz you'll love the Tekbond and it will last you a few years. Like it shows in Mooseman's video it comes right back to life
with a little water and scrubbing. I use a moist sponge and a spray bottle of water to clean the pallets.

TexTac and a foam roller. You will have to flash it before you start printing to get it tacky. It is water based and by not spraying the shop stays cleaner.

Ditto on the takbond. Throw the spray away. I keep it in a old water bottle, drilled a hole in the cap. Better then cleaning cap in a squeeze bottle. I also found spreading it with a scotch brite pad with a handle works well. The pad will remove some of the lint off the pallet cover and keep them relatively clean .

I used to use spray but, switched to textac.  I am glad I did.  It saves in the cost of the product and production time for cleanup.

I use a plastic ink scraper to spread it.  At first I put too much on.  After experimenting I find just a light coat is all you need.

I keep a sponge and bottle of water on the press so that I can clean off the shirt lint.   After wiping my platens down they are tacky again without having to re-apply.

I have some tek bond and am going to use it soon, but I hear that you have to warm the pallets to keep the sticky going. Or did I read that wrong? I was just wondering about prints where you dont need a flash.

Tek Bond, Tel Tac, Pallet Pro and others are all basically the same stuff.

Now to answer your question. We did a run of 3500 shirts front and back on one application of Tex Tac and no flashing or warming the pallets up.  All I did was mist with water and wipe the lint off every 1500 shirts or so.

go with the Tek Bond or similar, when you get it mix it about 60% Tek Bond and water in a smaller container that you will work out of.

Throw in some blue or green food coloring. The cutting is necessary (in my mind) because the Tek Bond used straight is way too sticky. We cut it and sometimes still have to use a old sweatshirt to fuzz it up a little so we can get the shirts off easily. After a few shirts it will be seasoned and work great for a long time, than renew like the video or similar.
The food coloring allows us to see the coverage when we are adding the tac, helps us get even coverage an no the color does not get on the shirts.
good luck
