My DIY exposure unit / bomb shelter

Frog:
Here is the link to the Olec site where you can learn about the various offerings, but I was more suggesting  that you keep your eyes and ears open for a deal on a used unit.

tpitman:
Offset print shops moving to direct-to-plate systems are often sources of the type of exposure light with the built-in shutter that Frog refers to. You might want to contact area offset supply houses that sell metal plates and the chemistry for them. Last shop I worked at had one mounted overhead . . . that thing would hot up, then stay lit while the shutter would snap open and shut. Might have had a light integrator built in, but I'm not sure about that.

Ahhh I gotcha.  I'll keep my eyes peeled for a used unit.  I put the wheels on it and it really is almost chest high and I'm 6'4".  First exposure will be tomorrow hopefully.  Any guesses on initial timing using aquasol HV photopolymer?  I'm thinking about 25 seconds?

ZooCity:
+1 for the Olec here.

I have two 5k watt AL-53 setups, ballast and lamps, one in a diy setup like yours (though nowhere near as nice, good work btw!) and one for backup.  I think they both were around $500 shipped to my door.

And yep, the Olec's can be run with their various integrators all of which have different options.

If you have a good source for bulbs, good ones can be had for around $150, oem ones cost more of course.

Olec is still an existing company and they do support their goods.  I had my shutter gear assembly crap out on one of mine and was able to get the parts kit for it easily.  I would buy one of these new if it was a necessity, I think they're pretty great.

You'll have to find out for yerself there.  It's hard telling how much UV in the 350-420 nm spectrum that setup is going to throw and how much the distance from the screen and the thickness (and type of) glass will take away from it.  On the above described olec my thickest coated Aquasol HV screens on a 115tpi mesh shot in around 16 sec. but, again, there's no reference but your own setup to go off of.
